Storyboarding is an important part of any kind of film whether it is animation or actual film, it helps to put the script into a visual reality so you can not only see what is going on but so you can also have an idea at the pace of how the story is going. You may decide that after seeing parts of it visually that some parts may need to be changed or swapper round or maybe done again altogether but it certain saves you money in the long run when you consider how much money you could waste if you was hire actors, get animation done and so on only to then not like how it turns out.

Believe it or not you do not have to be the best artist in the world to story board but it certainly helps when you have multiple people working on a project because you want other people to understand what is going on if they join in on production. Things that help the storyboard flow run well and fit the story itself are things like.....

Character designs/images of the cast
Soundtrack music for that particular scene
audio of the script by the voice actors

Character designs or images of the cast are essential so I can know who is who while the soundtrack and voice audio isn't as essential. In spite of this it is important that know that doing a storyboard without thse things can have an affect on the overall production. Things like voice tone and character behaviours in their speech can help define the kind of movement to include in the storyboard especially when it is a scene that involves more than one character interacting with each other.

There are two stage of storyboarding.......

THUMBNAILS

This part needs to be done first and is a very basic storyboard format known as thumbnails where there is no real detail in the line work but the basics are there along with written information that can help anyone understand it. When a storyboard is at this stage making changes is very simple as the line work is simplistic and easy to adjust. It is at this stage that you can tell if you are using the right kind of camera angles or if you want to make changes.

Starting from £150 (for anything within a minute of animation) then an extra £80 for every extra minute after.

This gets rounded off by the minute so for example if it works out to be 1 minute and 20 seconds it will be done based on it being 2 minutes of animation.

FULL DETAILED STORYBOARD

This part of the process is a lot more detailed where you can not only see the pace of the story better but you can also see the expressions of the characters as well as see a lot more on screen details that not only focus on the things happening on screen but things happening to the camera like camera direction and panning etc. Work like this is a lot eaiser to follow if the thumbnails are done first because anything that needs to be added even after the thumbnails are finished can be done at this stage too so once the thumbnails are done you do this after.

£40 per hour.
